The new agenda of SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics

SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Math will held new course by the title “Developing Lesson Study in Mathematics Education”
The course will carried out on October 5 – 30, 2009 in SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics in PPPPTK Matematika Yogyakarta.
In line with the agenda, we would like to invite all Secondary School Mathematics Teacher in Indonesia to take a part in this course as participant.
The requirement for the participant as foolows:
1. Secondary School Mathematics Teacher
2. Good communication both active and pasive in English, it can be proven by enclosing TOEFL certificate with the score min. 450
3. Enclose medical report under the sign representative doctor
4. Enclose CV in English

What is SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics?

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teacher and Education Personnel was established accordance with the article IV (10) of the chapter of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization. It was launched on July 13, 2009 by H E Jurin Laksanawisit the President of SEAMEO. The Centre located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia has purpose to take part in the quality improvement of Mathematics teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia

Vision

To be a centre of professional excellence in the area of Mathematics teaching for teachers and education personnel within the framework of sustainable development.

Mission

To provide relevant and quality programmes of professional development for mathematics teachers and education personnel through capacity building activities, resources sharing, research and development and networking.

Goals

The proposed SEAMEO Centre for QITEP in Mathematics is expected to achieve two major goals:

The first goal is to cater for the needs of improving the quality of mathematics teachers and education personnel in the region. It is expected that the new SEAMEO centre will contribute toward the growth and the strenghtening the quality of education for better quality of life of the people in the region.

The second goal is to establish extensive networks, sharing and exchanges information and experiences among SEAMEO Member Countries. It sis expected also that decision makers from the partners are able to access timely, accurate, and consistent data for better policy desicion to meet a wide range of benefits.

Objectives

Based on its goals, the Centre will carry out three objectives:
1. To promote sustainable professional development for teachers and education personnel in the area Mathematics
2. To provide intellectual forums for policy makers and experts in the field of Mathematics.
3. To establish networks and patnerships at national, regional, and international levels.

Programmes

The questions asked in the questionnaire relate to the programmes of the Centre whether the respondents agree or disagree with the programmes offered by the Centre. Reffering to the result of the programmes proposed as follows.

d. Seminars/Symposiums?Conferences
e. Scholarship
2. Enhance quality and efficiency management
3. Ensure Finacial Viability
4. Increase Access To Market

Organizational structure

Funding

The funding sources of the Centre may be grouped into two, namely internal and external sources of funding.
1. Internal sources of funding are basically from the host qovernment, i.e., the Goverenment of Indonesia, which provides support of funds for operational expenses of the centre. In addition, internal sources of funding also include SEAMEO for its provision of special education and development funds for each centre.

2. External sources of funding inclide government agencies, foundation, corporations, other organizations and individuals who provide funds in the form of grant and/ or gift based on mutual agreement/contract for the purpose of implementation of educational projects.

The centre plans to work collaboratively wiyh other local/international institutions to identify programme opportunities and develop funding mechanisms that further their mutual interest and objective. The centre will also seek to expand its funding strategy to include the establishment of an endowment fund for the purpose of ensuring its long-term financial stability. Basically the funding will be used for the growth and development of the Centre which includes the enhancement of human resources, structure and infrastructure, and miscellaneous.

SEAMEO Council President Launches New Regional Centres

The SEAMEO Council President and Minister of Education of Thailand, His Excellency Mr Jurin Laksanawisit officiated the launch of the three new SEAMEO Regional Centres in Indonesia on 13 July 2009. The centres are called SEAMEO Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Educational Personnel (SEAMEO QITEP). The centres specialize in teacher development, each focuses on language, science and mathematics, respectively.

H E Mr Jurin Laksanawisit officiated the signing of the Inscription and launching of the SEAMEO QITEP Charter. In a ceremony, the SEAMEO Council President, together with His Excellency Dr Bambang Sudibyo, Minister of National Education of Indonesia participated in a teleconference with the Southeast Asian participants at the three SEAMEO QITEP Regional Centres in Jakarta, Bandung and Jogjakarta.

The SEAMEO QITEP Centres are the newest regional centers added to the 15 SEAMEO Units located throughout Southeast Asia. The establishment of the three SEAMEO QITEP Centes was approved through a Council resolution at the 44th SEAMEO Council Conference in April 2009 in Phuket, Thailand. The SEAMEO QITEP in Yogyakarta offer training courses for teachers on Mathematics. Meanwhile, the SEAMEO QITEP in Bandung specializes on Science; and the SEAMEO QITEP in Jakarta focuses on Language.

During his visit to Indonesia, the SEAMEO Council President had also the opportunity to visit other existing SEAMEO regional centres in the country, namely, the SEAMEO TROPMED Regional Centre for Community Nutrition (RCCN) and the SEAMEO SEAMOLEC.

H E Mr Jurin Laksanawisit and H E Dr Bambang Sudibyo sign the plaque to commemorate the launch of the SEAMEO QITEP Centres.

The Acting Director of SEAMEO QITEP Centre for Mathematics, Mr Kasman Sulyono presents a token of appreciation to the SEAMEO Council President.

Officials from the other SEAMEO Units and the Director of SEAMEO Secretariat join the SEAMEO Council President in his visit to the SEAMEO QITEP Centre in Mathematics.

The SEAMEO Council President and SEAMEO Secretariat Director with the international training participants of SEAMEO QITEP Centre in Language in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The SEAMEO Council President also visits the SEAMEO TROPMED RCCN and SEAMOLEC in Indonesia.
